Awaiting for the license premises to start the rehabilitation of this old town house full of character. Located in a suburb that experienced growth throughout its history in the outskirts of the wall.
The owners of this apartment fell in love with life in the old town in Javea. They asked from the beginning for a nice home with hygrothermal comfort . This was solved with new windows in the main facade and foil underfloor heating. Another of their pleasures is the gastronomy. They could spend hours in the kitchen in special occasions, therefore the project was thought to design a very big kitchen in such a way that this house was transformed into a Kitchen House.
A traditional house in the Tossalet in Javea, unique for its southern orientation in that area with old, beautiful, mediterranean materials. Our challenge is the integration of cultures combining the original Mediterranean style with the the new modern extension. First step is to think with the paper and the pencil on site and start living the place, to further on reach the project concept and make the first layout.
Our meeting with the owners this morning at our studio to show the first ideas was indeed very successful , which means we now move to step two.
This is how we start. The first step is to find the way, to explore, to feel. Create paths that respect the nature, integrate into the landscape, play hide and seek and collect sensations.
The transformation of this house in a completely unrecognizable space is in process.
Once more, one of our mail goals in Jávea is to search for the best views towards the Montgó without loosing sight of the best orientation. In this recent extension that has just started we will make it possible to connect these two major aspects.
First pillars. Setting out and excavation
Placing the framework, concrete and demoulding. The archaeological works examine the underground of the plot, with delicacy and attention, inside and outside the building.
With the same care the rehabilitation and refurbishment of this house will be done forming part of the escence of Javea’s historic cente.
As good as a good canvas for a painter. This project on a Javea oldtown house is ready to be started. A house full of history and a project deeply made, thought with the pencil and the models. Very soon we will commence the archaeological excavation as this building is located over an archaeological site. We will be telling the story of this unique house that is in a state of ruin at the moment with over 400 years of antiquity.
Discussing some issues at site and confirming electricity plan. We are getting closer to the termination date of the works of the following project in Jávea, where we can see our project grow faster each day. With the good team work and plans very well defined since the beginning of the works, we are finishing each phase in its required time and we aim to keep like that till the end.
Another new project. A place in paradise, on the lower slope of the Montgo, wide and full of spontaneous vegetation after years of crops abandonment. This abundance is overwhelming, and states that the native species are the main characters of this project, obviously with consent of big Montgo. The plants have colonized this land to stay.
The renovation of this building of the 1800's fills us with motivation; for its story, for its surroundings and for the great potential that this space offers to our project.
In the XIX century the raisin export trade was the main element to organize the economy and life of the Marina Alta region by the coast. This house was built by a trading family from those times. 200 years later we have this great chance to get its character back and revitalise its area.
Romanticism was born in Europe at the end of the XVIII century as a contrast to the rationalism and the rigidity of the neoclassical style that since then was ruling all the areas of culture. Then the individuality, the subjectivity and nature emerged as the main guidelines.
Architecture can easily combine tradition, innovation and the good result. The house is located close to the Montgó, in Javea. This project aims to the traditional style of house in Javea, with the typical lowered arches made with tosca, the local stone, that create a porche space between the garden and the house.
Very excited about our next new project. It consists of a ruin over 400 years old which requires a very delicate and special intervention. First step was visiting the site several times to feel the place and then take measurements. Now we are being documented and inspired by accumulated experiences to reach the project concept. The most beautiful part, the creative part. This is only the beginning of a very exciting process. Sirine Ghadban

The office established in 1988 by the architects Aranda, Pigem and Vilalta has been awarded this year with the Pritzker prize, one of the most renowned ones worldwide for Architecture. They are the second Spanish architects to get this award, after Rafael Moneo, who achieved it in 1996.
Home is the place that gives shelter when the weather is bad. These long days of rain and low temperatures are testing the houses, specially the roof and the thermal insulation.
Works are almost finished for this refurbishment. Home is here. We just checked the light system.
